Travel Planner – Website Project

Project overview

A mobile-first travel planning website that helps users discover destinations, build day-by-day itineraries, estimate budgets, and share plans. Built for speed, SEO, and easy updates, with optional login to save trips across devices.

The challenge of project

Travelers want one place to: research places, map routes, plan days, track costs, and share plans—without juggling spreadsheets and apps. The site must be fast, clear on mobile, and keep data fresh (weather, hours, locations).

What We Built

  1. Structured sections: Explore, Itinerary, Map, Budget, FAQs, Contact.
  2. Reusable content blocks (destination cards, POIs, tips) for quick updates.
  1. Drag-and-drop day planner: add activities, reorder, set times and notes.
  2. Smart hints (nearby POIs, travel time between stops).
  3. Printable / shareable itinerary link and calendar export (iCal).
  1. Interactive map with route previews and transit/walk/drive estimates.
  2. One-tap directions open in Google/Apple Maps.
  3. Opening hours and contact details for saved places (where available).
  1. Per-item costs, daily totals, and overall trip budget.
  2. Currency conversion with auto-refresh; export to CSV.
  1. Sign in to save trips, favorites, and templates.
  2. Share read-only links with friends; collaborator comments (optional).
  1. Clear content map + naming for destinations/POIs.
  2. Basic analytics events (adds, removals, shares, prints) for product insights.
  1. Admin area to manage destinations, tags, and featured trips.
  2. Form validation, rate limiting on dynamic endpoints, and secure key handling.
  1. Responsive UI optimized for phones and tablets.
  2. Image optimization, lazy loading, semantic HTML for strong Core Web Vitals.
  3. SEO-ready: structured headings, rich snippets, sitemap, robots.
  1. Language-ready structure (e.g., English / German, extendable to Sinhala / Tamil).
  2. Localized routes, meta tags, and date/number formats.

Key Integrations

  1. Maps & Places (e.g., Google Maps/Places) for POIs, photos, hours.
  2. Weather (e.g., forecast for trip days).
  3. Calendar export (iCal) for itinerary syncing.
  4. Currency rates for budget estimates.
  5. Optional deep links to flights/hotels (affiliate-ready).

Final Results

Users can research, plan, and share complete trips in minutes. The site stays fast, accurate, and up to date, reducing planning friction and improving trip outcomes—on any device.
